Jim Davis was promoted to Fire Marshal at the May Board of Commission meeting. Davis previously held the position of Deputy Fire Marshal as retired Chief Andy Price was the designated Fire Marshal.
Chief Tom Sousa presented Beth Davis with the Fire Marshal badge, which she pinned on her husband.
At the May Board of Commission meeting, Cedar Hammock Division Chief Al Lobeto presented Firefighter Brian Reed’s family with a plaque containing the program of the unveiling of the new Fallen Firefighters Memorial at the state capital. The plaque also contained the etching of Firefighter Reed’s name and the year which he passed in the line of duty.
Fire District Holds Change of Command Ceremony

During the April Board of Commissioners meeting, Lieutenant Paul Hopkins and Firefighter Chad Brunner were awarded the Manatee County Fire Chiefs Association’s Unit Citation for their response to a large oak tree that fell onto a trailer entrapping a victim. As part of the LTRT 644, they were able to rescue the victim.

The B-Shift crew at Station 1 recently provided a wonderful station tour to 3 lucky visitors. All the kids took their turn extinguishing a “made believe” fire using a real water extinguisher.
Rescue Swimmer Training Conducted
Members of WMFR’s Rescue Swimmer Team performed their open water training evolution at Palma Sola Causeway. The Rescue Swimmers were tasked to “rescue” a buoy which represented an unconscious victim. Training also included searching for a submerged victim. Members of the Rescue Swimmer Team train regularly to keep their skills sharp.
West Manatee Fire & Rescue District honored personnel for their achievements in 2014. Earning Rookie of the Year was Firefighter Josh Adkins; Firefighter of the Year was Firefighter Tyler MacDonald and Fire Officer of the Year was Captain Ryan Moore. Continue reading
Chad Brunner was promoted to the rank of First Class Firefighter at the Board of Commissioners meeting, Thursday night. Firefighter Brunner started as a reserve firefighter with the District in 2009 and was hired in 2011 as a full-time firefighter.
