Desoto Young Marines Visit Station 2

The Desoto Young Marines recently participated in fire prevention activities at West Manatee Fire Rescue Station 2 in order to earn their fire prevention ribbon. The activities and knowledge which had to be mastered were:

1. Learn how to care for and change a battery in a smoke detector, also the location to mount them.

 2. Learn the proper use of a fire extinguisher and also how to check and make sure they are good. They were also taught what   PASS means.

 3. E. D. I. T. H. exit drills in the home, they were taught what it means and also how to make an exit plan with meeting places.
The Young Marines were given a tour of Station 2, the training building and a fire truck. They also had a competition to rolling out hose and rolling them back up. Firefighters demonstrated and explained the importance of wearing the firefighter’s turn out gear.  Prior to leaving, the Young Marines were able to have lunch with the on duty crew.

The Desoto Young Marines are part of the Marine Corps and they have been in Bradenton for six years. They meet twice a month at the DAV on 63rd Street East.  For more information about the Desoto Young Marines go to http://desotoym.org/
