Proposed sales tax shot down once again
For the third time in a row, voters said no to a proposed sales tax for West Manatee Fire and Rescue.
Firefighters said it's only going to hurt homeowners in the long run.
The district claims there won't be extra money to pay for extra firefighters.
Firefighters need to follow a new state law, which says there must be four fighters on scene, two to go inside the fire and two to stay outside.
"Now, when the first engine arrives on scene, we have to wait another five, six, seven minutes for a second engine to show up and during that time the fire is escalating," Ernie Cave of West Manatee Fire and Rescue said.
There is no word on whether the district plans to try for the tax a fourth time.
