Firefighters Utilize Virtual Classroom
West Manatee Fire and Rescue District firefighters have been utilizing the Internet to attend classes without leaving the fire station. The district has a virtual classroom that connects the three fire stations together via an Internet web portal. The technology is being widely used by universities and businesses worldwide. The virtual classroom is used for both fire and emergency medical training. The technology allows the moderator to present material using a blackboard, PowerPoint, streaming audio and video. The firefighters can interact with each other through either voice or chat. This technology saves the district in both time and money.
